Film scanners, including those from Vidar, Howtek, Kodak (Lumisys), and more can easily be interfaced to TIMS. The films are digitized by the scanner and converted to DICOM by TIMS. Additionally, using a traditional paper scanner, documents such as patient orders and reports can be input and converted to DICOM.
Benefit: By interfacing with a wide variety of scanners via TWAIN, TIMS can convert X-ray films to DICOM and send the resulting studies to PACS. This allows the studies to then be read anywhere on the hospital network and helps to eliminate the storage costs of film. Additionally, using a traditional paper scanner, documents such as patient orders and reports can be input and converted to DICOM.
