The pathology department frequently generates JPG images from their studies. They are then printed for review and storage. With TIMS, the pathology department can also take advantage of the convenience of PACS. The JPG images are opened in TIMS, converted to DICOM, and then sent to PACS. The DICOM studies can then be reviewed anywhere on the PACS network. And since the digital images are now stored on PACS, they no longer have to be printed for storage.
