Cardiac Imaging
Morriston Hospital, Wales, UK

Problem:   At Morriston Hospital (Swansea, Wales, UK), the cardiology department recently installed a GE Centricity PACS system.  They have two cardiac catheterization labs:  a new Siemens Axiom system and a Philips Integris bi-plane system.  The Philips system is non-DICOM.  An expensive replacement system is a couple of years away.  With this, Morriston Hospital needed to find a way to convert their motion video cardiac imaging studies to DICOM.

Solution:   TIMS DICOM System.  Morriston Hospital worked with their colleagues at the National Health System of Wales to evaluate the TIMS DICOM System.  TIMS was the only system that was able to capture long motion video runs that were typical of their cardiac imaging studies.  To more fully automate the studies, the hospital queries from the DICOM Modality Worklist to automatically populate the patient information including the referring physician name and body part of the study.  Just a few minutes after the study is complete, it can be reviewed on PACS.  “TIMS is very easy to use.  The image quality is excellent and our studies are quickly available for review on our PACS system,” said Stephen Morris, Cardiac Information Manager at the Swansea NHS Trust.
